Municipalities in Indiana are authorized to regulate the use of airsoft guns, and some local laws restrict their use in public places or on school grounds. Anyone who fires an airsoft gun in a public area is at risk of being reported for disturbance of public order by law enforcement officers. The use of airsoft guns on private property requires the owner's consent. The good news is that there are no specific airsoft laws in Indiana.
The state does not classify airsoft guns as firearms and does not impose specific restrictions on their use. This is mainly due to the way airsoft guns are designed. In Indiana, you must be 18 years old to buy a compressed air gun, air rifle, or pellet gun. However, you need a license to carry a gun in public here.
That carrying license requirement applies unless you are on a property you own, rent or lease, or the landlord has given you specific permission to carry a gun on your property. However, as mentioned earlier, you must have a license to legally carry a handgun outdoors. The law does not specify whether a gun can be carried outdoors or must be hidden. The Indiana State Police advises gun owners to act with discretion, as carrying a gun in plain sight in public could be a threat to some people and attract unwanted attention to you.

According to the NRA website, personal firearms will be allowed inside the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium during the convention from April 26 to 28, provided that the owner is licensed to do so under Indiana law. Subsection (b) shall not apply to law enforcement officials duly authorized in the performance of their official duties. Nothing in this section shall prevent the use of such devices in any place authorized and regulated by the city police department, provided that a permit has been issued by the chief of police; nor shall the use of such devices in defense of persons or property as permitted by state law be restricted hereby. Indiana state law defines firearms as any weapon that is capable of expelling a projectile through an explosion. It is illegal for any person to shoot or shoot within city limits any compressed air gun, elastic gun or other similar device commonly called a compressed air gun intended to propel a pellet, bullet or any similar projectile; however nothing in this section shall prevent the use of such weapons in shooting galleries or in any authorized place regulated by the police department. Possession of alcohol by people under 21 years old is illegal in Indiana; and this will be enforced. Therefore it's important to always carry your airsoft gun in a safe hidden place when you're out in public.

Anyone not familiar with airsoft would assume that the weapon you are carrying is a real firearm and this can get you into serious trouble if you handle your weapon carelessly in public. Since airsoft isn't specifically illegal in Indiana it's easy to assume that you'll be legally safe using airsoft guns so be careful how you handle your airsoft gun.
